Board of Directors

The alumni society is led by a volunteer board of directors committed to engaging individuals and organizations in the life of the college and the University of Minnesota. Learn about the role of board members and how you can join the board of directors.

Alumni Society Committees

Alumni society committees work to support student development, expand educational and outreach opportunities, develop pride and spirit, and raise financial support for the college. If you are interested in serving on one of the committees below, or related events and activities, please contact CFANS Alumni Relations at cfansaro@umn.edu.

Student Development

Student Development

  • The Student Development Committee advises the planning of programming that connects current CFANS students with alumni and supports students’ academic and professional development. This Committee plans networking events and assists in the selection of scholarship recipients for Alumni Society Scholarships. The committee meets on an as-needed basis.

Education and Outreach

Education and Outreach

  • The Classes Without Quizzes Committee provides input into the selection of topics and speakers for the annual event, and assists with the day-of activities. Committee members are requested to market and promote the event through their personal and professional connections. The committee meets approximately six to seven times annually. Please note that this program is currently on hold.
  • The Norman Borlaug Science Achievement Award Committee selects the “book of the year” and helps promote awareness of the program. Each committee member should also personally deliver at least one award in a school of his/ her choice. The committee meets approximately 3-4 times annually.

Pride & Spirit

Pride & Spirit

  • The Homecoming Committee coordinates CFANS Homecoming activities, including the Parade Party, the Parade Unit, and the Homecoming Tailgate. The Committee supports CFANS and U of M Alumni Association Homecoming activities by promoting them to their networks and attending events. The committee meets about 5 times in the summer-fall prior to Homecoming celebrations.
  • The Recognition Committee ensures recognition of deserving alumni by helping to solicit nominations for both the Alumni Society Awards and the U of M Alumni Association Awards. The committee supports  by encouraging attendance and volunteering on the evening of the event. The chair of this committee will also act as liaison to the college’s Honors and Awards Committee. The committee meets 3-4 times during the spring semester.

    Financial Support

    • The Golf Scramble for Scholarships Committee is responsible for the overall planning of the event. Members have the option of taking responsibility for a specific aspect of the Golf Scramble, such as the silent auction or recognition of sponsors. Committee members often volunteer to help the day-of the event. The committee meets approximately 4-5 times annually.
    • The Sponsorship Committee provides input and guidance to the development of the annual sponsorship proposal, identifies potential new sponsors, and supports stewardship and recognition of current sponsors. The committee meets 4-5 times during the year.

    • The Recent Grad Committee plans events and programs that meet the social and professional needs of recent CFANS graduates. The Committee will work towards expanding the Young Alumni Network to reach more alumni in the Twin Cities and outside of the metro area. The committee meets about 5 times annually.
    • The Alumni Engagement Committee is responsible for identifying needs, strategies, and activities to cultivate alumni engagement. The Committee is charged with developing an alumni engagement plan that will be implemented by the Alumni Society. The committee meets on an as-needed basis.
