Cheese and Dairy
Did you know that the University of Minnesota has a rich history of dairy product research that goes back to the early 1900s? Researchers here were instrumental in developing procedures for making blue cheese in the United States. The Dairy Salesroom is open to the public on Wednesdays between 2 and 5 p.m. In addition to delicious cheese, you'll find ice cream and frozen yogurt.
Meat
The University of Minnesota was the first university in the United States to have a meat laboratory built in 1901. Meat products, such as beef, lamb, pork, poultry and sausage, made by students are available for sale on Wednesdays between 2 and 5 p.m.
Seasonal
Organic Produce
The student-run farm, Cornercopia, sells organic produce at farmers markets on the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses during the growing season.
Honey
Students in Frenatae, a graduate student organization, sell locally produced honey, beeswax candles, and student-drawn insect art notecards and calendars. Join the mailing list by contacting umnfrenatae@umn.edu to stay up to date on the products.
Christmas Trees
Students in the Forestry Club have been selling locally grown Christmas trees on the St. Paul campus since 1949. Tree sales begin the Friday after Thanksgiving and continue until the trees are gone.
