The following are sample programs that tend to be a good academic fit for many CFANS majors, however it certainly isn't the full list! Africa

MSID-International Development in Senegal 

Study international development in Senegal through coursework, homestays, French language immersion and individualized field placements or research projects. Examples of past internship activities include improving production and agricultural techniques in community gardens cared for by women in rural villages.


University of Ghana 

Study at the largest of the four universities in Ghana which currently enrolls over 30,000 students.Classes are taught in English and TWi are available for most CFANS majors. Sample course topics include agricultural economics, agricultural marketing, nutrition, agribusiness, crop science, and food science.


School for Field Studies: Kenya 

Visit different ecosystems and communities which may include: the vast savannas at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, national parks and wildlife management areas in the Amboseli-Tsavo ecosystem, ranches and farms, rural villages, acacia forests, a rhino sanctuary, Indigenous communities, the rugged wilderness and peaks of the Chyulu Hills, wildlife migratory corridors, and the plains of the Serengeti in Tanzania. Research how climate change and land-use changes are negatively affecting Kenya’s ecosystems and those living in them.


School for Field Studies: Tanzania 

Experience the rich culture and traditions of the Maasai, Iraqw, and Hadzabe tribal communities while collaborating on issues of human-wildlife conflict and climate change. Finish up the semester by heading into the field to conduct an extensive research project in the country’s world-famous national parks and conservation areas.

Americas

Study Abroad in Buenos Aires: Argentina

Explore the vibrant atmosphere of Buenos Aires, the “Paris of the Americas.” Immerse yourself in the language, history, and culture of Argentina through regular excursions and living with a local host family. Course topics taught in English include economics and international marketing. Spanish language courses welcome beginner to intermediate level students.


School for Field Studies Chile

This program takes place across the contrasting landscapes of Patagonia, from jagged peaks, massive glaciers, and narrow fjords to expansive grasslands and the lush temperate rainforests growing at the base of the Andes. Courses and fieldwork focus on key environmental issues faced here such as climate change, biodiversity conservation, tourism impacts, and sustainable livelihoods.


School for Field Studies Costa Rica

Study tropical ecology and economics while developing an understanding of the issues and challenges related to natural resources management. Students work with local Costa Rican park rangers, farmers, and top environmental officials to understand the challenges of maintaining the biodiversity of the country. 


MSID-International Development in Ecuador 

Study international development in Ecuador through coursework, homestays, Spanish immersion and individualized field placements or research projects. Focus on environmental sustainability and intern with an NGO in the Amazon rainforest or a wildlife preserve, work on an agro-ecological farm, or research issues relating to sustainable foods, and water resources.


School for Field Studies: Turks & Caicos 

Take courses in tropical marine ecology, resource management and habitat conservation of South Caicos Island in the Caribbean.


School for Field Studies: Panama 

Our programs in Panama take place in the diverse environments of the Bocas del Toro archipelago – coral reefs, mangrove islands, inland rainforests, and sandy palm beaches. Courses and fieldwork focus on key environmental issues faced here such as climate change, biodiversity conservation, tourism impacts, and ecosystem health.


School for Field Studies: Peru 

Discuss threats to the region – from climate change to resource extraction – and get at the heart of Peru’s conservation and development issues. Experience flooded forests on a multi-day riverboat expedition and travel to the Andean highlands where you’ll visit cloud forests and the historic Incan capital of Cusco, the hub for visitors to Machu Picchu.

Asia/Oceania

School for Field Studies: Australia

Study rainforest management and restoration and learn field research techniques that have important implications for climate change, land use, restoration and more.


School for Field Studies: Bhutan

Conduct research on forest biodiversity, conservation, and sustainable development. Experience Bhutanese culture through field visits and program excursions including treks through villages, old-growth forests, and riverine ecosystems.


University Study in New Zealand: University of Otago

Experience Kiwi student life at one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the southern hemisphere. Access the wide variety of recreation and ecological tourism that New Zealand has to offer, all while taking courses in ecology, biology, culture and more.


MSID-International Development in Thailand 

Study in Thailand, a major hub for manufacturing, agriculture, and tourism. Explore the complexities of globalization, sustainability, and the environment as they relate back to the theme of international development. Engage with local communities while participating in a 6-week internship or research project.

School for Field Studies: Cambodia

Gain practical skills in the field such as: species identification and wildlife monitoring, elephant behavior analysis, conservation project proposals and grant writing, ethical reasoning, basic Khmer language skills, research design and implementation, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, and research presentation. Visit the ancient Angkor temples, study threats to biodiversity, learn about environmental justice and policy, and discuss traditional medicines with Indigenous communities.Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore 

Europe

Study Abroad in Denmark 

This program combines classroom teaching, local field studies, and study tours in Denmark and other European countries. Choose from courses relating to the European business environment, sustainability, and environmental science.


University of Limerick: Ireland 

Study in Ireland’s third-largest city at the University of Limerick, known as one of Ireland’s most beautiful campuses. In addition to innovative academics, state-of-the-art facilities, and a vibrant campus life, the university offers many courses in environmental science, plus a large equine science program.


University Cattolica del Sacro Cuore: Italy 

Students have the option of studying CFANS related coursework in Milan or Piacenza. Sampel courses include: Sustainability & Food Law, Crop Protection, Integrated Vineyard Protection, Microbiology of Dairy and Meat Food, Food Economics, and Applied Agronomy and Horticulture.


University of Glasgow: Scotland 

Founded in 1451, the University of Glasgow consistently ranks as one of the UK's most highly-rated schools. Students can explore options through the biology and earth science departments--many of which focus on animal biology and life science.
