Reawakening the Native American Medicine Garden
The University of Minnesota’s College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS) is honored to support and join in celebrating the reopening of the Native American Medicine Garden on the St. Paul campus on May 30, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Native American Medicine Garden is located in the fields across the street from the Bell Museum (Cleveland Ave. N. and Larpenteur Ave. W.)
The Native American Medicine Garden is more than a physical place. It is a space for reflection, learning, cultural connection, and respect for the land and its stewards. The reawakening reflects a renewed commitment to honoring Indigenous — specifically Dakota — knowledge, traditions, and relationships to land.
This work is being guided in partnership with Tribal communities, the Minnesota Indian Affairs Council, and University of Minnesota stakeholders, including CFANS. “Indigenous voices are leading the vision and direction of the Native American Medicine Garden,” said Jennifer Garbow, CFANS tribal engagement and outreach liaison. “The Garden acknowledges the deep cultural and historical connections Indigenous communities have to the land and will serve as a place to learn from and elevate Indigenous knowledge systems.”
