A message from CFANS Interim Dean Linda Nagel

July 1, 2026
Linda Nagel.

Dear CFANS Alumni, Partners and Friends,

Today, I am honored to begin serving as interim dean of the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences (CFANS).

I am grateful to Dean Brian Buhr for his leadership and service to CFANS. Thanks to Brian and the many faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors and partners who contribute to our success, CFANS enters this next chapter from a position of strength and opportunity.

Throughout my career at land-grant universities, I have seen the extraordinary impact that education, research and public engagement can have for people, communities and the industries we serve. That belief in the land-grant mission — and in the power of partnerships — is one reason I am so excited to serve CFANS during this important time.

Our College is home to exceptional students, faculty and staff who are advancing discovery, preparing future leaders and helping address some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing Minnesota and the world. As interim dean, my commitment is to sustain our momentum, support our people and continue advancing the work that matters most.

In the months ahead, we will remain focused on student success, growing enrollment, strengthening partnerships, advancing research and outreach, and moving forward with our strategic planning efforts. Rather than pausing during this transition, we are actively moving forward with shared energy and purpose. Together, we will continue building on CFANS’ strong foundation and expanding our impact across Minnesota and beyond.

Thank you for your partnership, support and commitment to CFANS and the University of Minnesota. I look forward to working alongside you as we continue to advance our shared mission and shape the future of food, agriculture, natural resources, sustainability and health.

Sincerely,

Linda Nagel
