Move over, Hollywood — the brightest stars in the galaxy are right here at CFANS! We gathered on April 16, 2026, for the 20th annual Borealis Night of Excellence, and the energy in the North Star Ballroom at the St. Paul Student Center was truly electric. This wasn't just any awards ceremony; it was a major milestone celebrating two decades of honoring the incredible people who make CFANS a world-class community.
The evening served as a vibrant tribute to our own "A-listers" — the students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends whose leadership and dedication shine through every day. From groundbreaking researchers and dedicated educators to the student leaders who are quite literally cultivating the future, the room was packed with talent. It felt like our very own version of a premier gala, though perhaps with a bit more talk about soil health, food systems, and natural resource conservation than your typical high-profile event!
A true highlight of this anniversary year was honoring Sally Noll, PhD, with the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award. As a professor emerita in the Department of Animal Science, Noll’s decades of legendary work in turkey nutrition and management have had a profound impact on the industry and the University. Seeing her recognized among her peers was a perfect example of the enduring legacy we celebrate at Borealis.

Whether it was a student receiving their first leadership award or a seasoned professional being honored for a lifetime of impact, the night was a joyful reminder of the strength and breadth of our community. Co-hosted by our Alumni Society, Undergraduate, Graduate, and Postdoc boards, the event proved that while our fields of study are diverse, our commitment to excellence is a shared North Star.
