This fall, the Cargill thrive program hosted a Lunch with Leaders luncheon for scholarship recipients. Cargill thrive scholars were able to network with industry professionals and University of Minnesota staff. During the event Cargill thrive scholars heard speeches from Melissa Leick, Vice President of the Office for Human Resources at Cargill, Brian Buhr, Dean of CFANS, and Starr Sage, CFANS Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Launched in fall 2022, the Cargill thrive Scholarship Program aims to ensure more equitable access for women and BIPOC students pursuing careers in STEM, business, and agriculture. The goal of the program is to help students convert their education into meaningful careers through mentoring, professional and leadership development programming, and career coaching.

Remarks from thrive scholars:

"I was able to get more motivation for the rest of the semester, but realize all the hard work I have already put in and how far I've come."
"I was able to meet some other members in the Cargill thrive program, and introduce myself to a few of the faculty that manage the program."
"I really enjoyed the opportunity to get to know other program members and learn more about Cargill thrive’s initiatives. I appreciated the chance to hear from the leaders as well."
