CFANS Norway: Environmental & Natural Resources Exchange

Study animal science, wildlife, fisheries, energy resources, natural resource management, recreation, and environmental geography at Nord University in Steinkjer for a semester or academic year. This program has many excursions that exemplify important elements of resource management, including both wilderness and developed areas and the interface between these two. Location: Nord University is located in downtown Steinkjer.

Language: Norwegian or English. View a list of courses offered in English.

Course Load: Students are required to maintain a minimum of 13 credits per semester; 15 credit maximum per semester.

Course work: Nord University offers a variety of classes in animal science, economics, and natural resources. Search for classes and learn more about the exchange program on the Nord University website.

Housing: Students will live in campus apartments. Applications for housing due June 1 for fall applicants.

Application Review Process
Exchange programs can be competitive and we are not always able to place all applicants. After the application deadline, your application will be reviewed and if nominated, will be submitted to the exchange coordinator at Nord University. Nord University will make the final acceptance decision. If you decide not to continue with the process, please let the Office of International Programs in CFANS know of your decision.

Program Fee
The 2019-2020 semester exchange program expenses are as follows. There is no additional tuition for Nord University. Students pay an admission fee of $150, pay for books, and for international health insurance. Students need to budget for housing, meals, airfare, and personal expenses. 

Here are estimated additional costs:

  • Transportation to and from program site $2,000
  • Housing & Meals $6,000-$7,000
  • Texts & materials $400
  • Passport & photos $150

Billing & Payments 

Upon submission of your Confirmation and Payment Agreement Form, you will be charged a $600 non-refundable deposit, which is due shortly after it posts to your University of Minnesota student billing account.

You will receive an official e-bill notification via your University of Minnesota email account.

The deposit due date is noted on youre-billand is due prior to the release of financial aid.

The remainder of your program fee will be billed to your University student billing account and is payable via the same method and due dates as regular University of Minnesota tuition.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Most financial aid may be applied to study abroad and international exchanges. We encourage you to apply for CFANS grants, department scholarships and the Learning Abroad Center scholarships.
