WATCH: More "plant destroyer" water mold species discovered in Minnesota
CFANS postdoctoral associate Nick Rajtar and his team have found 14 previously undetected species of a destructive water mold, Phytophthora, in Minnesota. The discovery, which was recently highlighted in a WCCO-TV news segment, reveals a potential threat to the state's plants, trees and crops. Rajtar's research, conducted in the Department of Plant Pathology, focuses on early detection and management of these pathogens, which are believed to be introduced through the nursery trade.
This important work helps protect Minnesota's natural landscapes and agricultural economy. WCCO provides a closer look at the research and explains how members of the public can get their plants tested at the University's lab if they suspect an infection.
