Discover your CFANS vibe with Major Moodboards
LI YAN TAN, STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION, BA '25
Last fall, CFANS launched an exciting social media campaign, Moodboard Mondays, offering followers a creative glimpse into the unique personality and atmosphere of each CFANS major. Spearheaded by Netanya Sadoff, one of our talented student communications assistants, this campaign brought the essence of CFANS to life with beautifully curated mood boards shared on our Instagram page.
Each mood board captures the distinctive vibe of a CFANS major, providing a visual representation of what makes our programs special. Comments like "This is so me" and "Sick you guys listened to me" highlight the enthusiasm and connection our followers feel toward their majors.
The campaign drew inspiration from 2010's aesthetic culture that was popular on platforms like Pinterest and Tumblr. Netanya shared, "The specific 3 x 3 tile mood board style used in the campaign is outdated by today’s trends and aesthetics, yet it is nostalgic for many chronically-online Gen Z-ers like myself." To add a CFANS twist, the mood boards blended sincerity, irony, and humor inspired by University of Minnesota-centered satire accounts. "I wanted to remedy the lack of CFANS-specific content by making irreverent comedy about the college and campus I love," she explained.
Netanya's favorite mood board? Environmental Science, Policy, and Management (ESPM), which also happens to be her major, and the most popular post of the series. "Instead of using pictures from Pinterest or the University, I included my own personal photos, even going as far to cameo my cat, Mr. Tuna, and myself," she revealed. "Upon posting, I found that it outperformed all previous mood boards and went on to be our most successful of the entire campaign!"
Beyond likes and comments, the mood boards have fostered deeper engagement with students, staff, alumni, and prospective students. Many have shared their excitement to see mood boards for their own majors, making this campaign a fun and interactive way to celebrate the CFANS experience. Netanya reflected, "If there's one thing I hope people take away from this campaign, it's this: Whether you're a first year student or a department head, you must remember to find joy and humor while pursuing your chosen field of study."
If you haven't seen the mood boards yet, head over to Instagram and discover which major speaks to you.
