From CFANS to the field: Alumni leading the future of rural finance at Compeer Financial

At Compeer Financial, our work goes far beyond lending. As a member-owned cooperative, we’re committed to enriching rural America—a mission shared by many CFANS alumni who now serve in roles across our organization.
We work alongside farmers and rural businesses to deliver personalized financial solutions—often meeting clients where they are: in the field, at the barn or around the kitchen table. With more than 1,500 team members, including dozens of proud CFANS grads, we combine deep financial expertise with authentic relationships to help rural communities thrive.
“Knowing I’m contributing to the success of producers as they pursue their dreams is what energizes me,” said Shawn Miller (BS '93, agribusiness management), managing director of Retail Credit.
Our culture is grounded in collaboration, care and community. Many of our team members live and farm in the areas we serve—giving us firsthand insight into the challenges and opportunities in modern agriculture. In 2024 alone, Compeer team members volunteered over 4,300 hours and actively mentored the next generation of ag leaders.

Looking to the future, Compeer is focused on supporting emerging producers, enhancing digital tools and advancing sustainable ag practices—with CFANS alumni playing a vital role in that progress.
