Catherine Rasmussen, Rasmussen, Extension Professor in Leadership and Civic Engagement at UMN

Recent research provides strong evidence that emotional intelligence is one of the best predictors of leadership success. Emotional intelligence is related to leadership effectiveness, to the performance of effective leadership behaviors, and to overall effective performance in the workplace.  Emotionally intelligent leaders know how to boost job satisfaction for themselves and their followers. This workshop will introduce you to how emotional intelligence helps people emerge as leaders, how it motivates the managers to perform more effective leadership behaviors, and how it increases overall leadership effectiveness. As part of this workshop, participants will complete an EQ-i 2.0® inventory and learn how this assessment tool reliably measures a person’s emotional intelligence. From this, each participant will create a personal development plan to increase their “EQ” and overall well-being.

Catherine (Catie) Rasmussen is an Extension Professor in Leadership and Civic Engagement with the University of Minnesota.  She holds a Master’s Degree in curriculum and instruction and brings over 35 years of experience in education. Catherine has created an award-winning “bridging leadership” program, which focuses on enhancing leadership capacity and collaboration among communities. As a certified trainer in the field of emotional intelligence, she has been a trainer for Extension’s statewide and national leadership programs and has conducted research on increasing emotional intelligence.
